In our last blog post we talked about some amazing women making strides in their own industries. A lot of these women have been recognized internationally and have large followings on their own. It can be kind of intimidating. Believe us, we get it. Just remember that each of them started somewhere. They didn’t become goodwill ambassadors or marine biologists over night. It took time, hard work, and perseverance.
That’s the thing, in this battle for equality it’s easy to hide behind thoughts of “what difference will I even make?”. We know that doubt and fear is very real. That voice in our head is made even more real when the words come from people. The number of people that hear, and even listen to you will never take away the importance of your message. The road to progress is long and winded. That is why more than ever, we need to be brave. Brave enough to stand up for yourself, to stand up for those who don’t have a voice, and to speak out when it would be easier to stay silent.
A lot easier said than done, right? So start small but never give up. Eventually you’ll find that the small steps take you farther than you thought. Collaborate and support your fellow women. When we band together and celebrate each other’s strengths and differences, no one will be able to ignore us. When you get discouraged, remember the bigger picture. We’re working towards a world where inequality won’t even be a second thought. As Sheryl Sandberg said, “In the future, there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders.”
