Here’s an idea for a new year’s resolution: let’s get out of our comfort zones. Last year hasn't been the best for most of us, so what better way to start the new year by taking a step forward? Who knows, it might just lead us to that something thing we've always yearned for!
You’ve all heard it time and again, growth isn’t found in your comfort zone. In order to learn and reach your goals, you need to willingly to push yourself. That might seem daunting so we wanted to remind you to honor your pace. Life isn’t a race, the only person you should be trying to one up is yourself. One of the biggest obstacles to trying something new is worrying about having it all figured out. We spend so much time trying to perfect a plan but there is no perfect way to do things. That need to have it all figured out is because we’re afraid to fail — which is completely normal. But you know what else is normal? Failing. Give yourself permission to fail. It is through failure that you are able to get back up and improve. You can spend a lot of time fixating on unattainable perfection or give yourself unlimited chances to do something imperfectly. Improving it as you go along.
Fear is normal. In fact, it’s a sign that something matters to you. That you are invested in the outcome. So don’t run away from fear. Use it as motivation. Use it as a reminder that what you are doing has value. Don’t let fear control you. Instead, remember that it is only are paralyzing as you let it. All that time you spend being afraid is time you could spend doing something productive and exciting. Know that fear is human and it will be there with you every step of the way. Any dream worth chasing usually has your venturing in to the unknown and that’s scary, but oh so exciting!
You don’t have to completely dive in to new things. It’s easy to get caught up in the race. In this day and age it seems like everyone is an overnight success. We’re all searching for that instant gratification but you just have to be patient. Take care of yourself and honor your pace. With social media is might seem like your peers are ahead of the game and you are struggling to keep up. But behind those #instagoal photos are journeys you aren’t aware of. Starting is the most important part. So choose to take a step towards that scary goal or exciting idea. Regardless of how small that step is, you’re already winning. This life is about the journey, not the destination. Be present and you will find that every moment has something to offer you.
